torrent file to a Torrent site is not what gets people 'caught'. People sometimes choose to hide their IP to further reduce the already very low risk of being 'caught'. torrent files to TPB-is no, for two reasons. I have to try and be perfect with Up/downloads / whatever I do. The answer to your question-do you need to hide your IP when uploading. I got caught, so I must have been sloppy somehow. From articles I read I would have continued to get nothing. (Aug 20, 2016, 14:37 pm)LZA Wrote: (Aug 17, 2016, 17:53 pm)Sid Wrote: Is it better to be protected? How many files have you up/downloaded over all the years you have been sharing? How many times have you been caught?Īside from the fright, what penalty did you actually suffer? If you have the money to spare and you don't mind the small inconvenience a VPN isn't a bad idea and it will make you even safer but that doesn't mean you need a VPN. If the &aip1 parameter is found in the request URL, then the last octet of the user IP address is set to zero while still in memory. (Aug 17, 2016, 17:53 pm)Sid Wrote: Is it better to be protected? Artists can pursue on their own, but they have to jump through considerably more hoops to get any information, and they are as diverse as we are in how much they care or are willing to go after people. Unless they will profit more from going after you (which would pretty much only apply to reselling sites, like all of Phuong's), it's financially smarter to turn a blind eye.
But you could also argue (quite easily) that your IP address is insufficient proof of anything, and Daz wants your money, which they aren't getting if you can't buy from them. Could Daz block your account or something? Sure. Yes, it's a breach of the EULA, but really, I don't think Daz cares all that much, as generally, it would be the responsibility of the PA to issue a DMCA, and they don't have direct access to your IP address in the first place. Hiding your IP address keeps these searches private and anonymous.
I got two warning letters from I think a Fast and Furious and some Disney movie in the three years I was doing so. This might be the case with journalists, law enforcement, political candidates, celebrities, and more. Not even like it was similar, all my uploads and such were with the exact same username, from the exact same IP address, and a static IP address no less. As a terrible example of how not to do things, for a very long time, I was using the same username I have at Daz everywhere I torrented. IPs aren't nearly as concretely identifying as they seem.
